The work
Five services: identity, packaging and print, digital templates, product photography and illustration. Most projects use two or three of them.
We work remotely from American Fork, Utah, and most clients are not in Utah — they have been in New York, Idaho, Maine, and southern Utah. Product work travels well. What matters is whether the person doing it has seen your category before, not how far they are from it.
The name
Syncerus is the genus of the African buffalo — Syncerus caffer, the Cape buffalo. It was not chosen for the imagery.
The buffalo is strong without being aggressive: it is not violent unless it is provoked or protecting something. It serves. And it is at its strongest as part of a group rather than alone — the herd forms a ring around the calves and the injured, and will go back for one that has been taken. Those are documented behaviours, not a metaphor chosen afterwards.
How we’d rather work
Honestly, the best projects have started with a conversation about the product rather than a brief about the design. If you tell us what you are making, who buys it and what has gone wrong so far, we can usually tell you which of the five services you actually need — which is sometimes fewer than you came in expecting.
